Executive Team

Earl’s greatest strength is our people. Our executive team is made up of seasoned industry experts, many of whom have extensive leadership experience in the US Navy. Each member of our executive team brings their own unique experience, expertise and knowledge to the mix – resulting in an efficient customer-focused environment, where we collaborate effectively with our clients, our staff, and one another.

Jerrold L. Miller

President

Mr. Jerry Miller is a 1977 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, with a degree in Ocean Engineering. In 1985, after serving for seven years in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, Jerry became the second full-time employee of Earl Industries. In 1989, he bought the company and has been its President and CEO since that time. Jerry is active in the company’s daily operations while at the same time, guiding the vision and execution of the company’s aggressive growth strategy. The company now employs over 900 people with locations in all of the Navy’s major homeport locations in the continental United States.

Jeffrey A. Brooks

Chief Operating Officer

Rear Admiral (Ret) Jeff Brooks holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri and a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He has over 25 years of senior executive and hands-on experience in ship maintenance, modernization, marine engineering, and acquisition. During his 38 year career with the United States Navy, Jeff specialized in Navy ship construction along with maintenance and modernization in support of Fleet readiness, culminating in assignment to the Navy’s top maintenance position: Fleet Maintenance Officer, US Fleet Forces Command. Jeff joined Earl in July of 2008.  With his extensive leadership skills and operational experience, he is a valuable addition to the Earl Industries’ Executive Team.

Greg Corey

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Greg Corey holds a Bachelor of Science (Accounting) degree and an MBA from Old Dominion University. He has been a licensed CPA in the State of Virginia for 26 years. He began his career with the international accounting firm of Coopers and Lybrand. He spent 21 years with Newport News Shipbuilding, where he held increasingly responsible management positions culminating in his appointment to Director of Finance. During his tenure with Newport News, Greg was involved in a number of key projects including the Tenneco spin-off, SEC reporting, implementation of SAP, union negotiations, corporate shared services, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and purchase accounting activities associated with the Northrop Grumman acquisition. He joined Earl in July of 2009.

Paul Fields

General Manager, Ship Repair – Virginia

Mr. Paul Fields has over 30 years experience working for the U.S. Navy which included numerous leadership awards. In addition, he has filled a variety of leadership, management, and executive roles in the private sector. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in Engineering Management from Western Illinois University. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Mr. Fields has extensive experience in surface engineering operations, maintenance, program management, inspection, training, submarine sub-safe, nuclear maintenance, special warfare, and special operations support/maintenance. Mr. Fields is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers.

Joseph J. O’Conor

General Manager, Florida Operations

Mr. Joe O’Conor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in General Engineering from the US Naval Academy and a Master’s Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at the National Defense University. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from George Washington University. Joe is a retired US Navy Captain, having served on numerous ships throughout his career, including a tour as Commanding Officer of USS O’Bannon (DD-987). After retiring from the Navy in 2001, he joined Earl Industries and has been instrumental in the growth and profitability of the company’s Florida Division.

Brian J. Perry

Vice President, Integrated Power & Controls Division

Mr. Brian Perry has over 30 years experience in the marine electrical industry. With broad technical and managerial experience, Brian has traveled worldwide performing surveys aboard US Navy ships for power and lighting, elevators, conveyors, generators, switchboards, communications, alarm circuits, and weapons systems controls.  With previous experience at the Jonathan Corporation, Colonna’s Shipyard, and Marine Hydraulics International, Mr. Perry is regarded as a technical expert and a leader in the marine electrical industry for his innovative designs and gifted problem solving.  In 1995, Mr. Perry founded Beach Panel & Controls, Inc., which he sold to Earl Industries in 2008.

Ronald J. Matoushek

Vice President, Facilities

Mr. Ron Matoushek holds a Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering) degree from Purdue University and a Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering) degree from the Naval Postgraduate School. Ron is a retired US Navy Engineering Duty Officer with over twenty-one years of active service. He joined Earl Industries in 1989 and has held numerous senior management positions in the company. As the company has grown throughout the United States, Ron’s engineering expertise has been instrumental in facilities design and space allocation, as well as in contracting for facilities-related services.

Brian E. Miller

Director, Precision Manufacturing Division

Mr. Brian Miller is a graduate of Belmont Technical College with a degree in Welding. He worked for six years at The Jonathan Corporation as a pipe welder/fitter before joining Earl Industries in 1990 as a Structural Foreman. Demonstrating outstanding organizational and leadership skills, Brian was promoted in 1995 to the position of Assistant Production Manager where he excelled in assisting with the rapid growth of the company. In 2001, he assumed leadership of the company’s Precision Manufacturing Division, responsible for three manufacturing facilities and a diverse manufacturing workforce capable of providing specialty metal products up to 150,000 pounds, CNC machining and aerospace parts processing.

John J. Anderson

Director of Procurement

After attending the University of Virginia, Mr. John Anderson joined the ship repair firm of Moon Engineering Company, Inc. in 1977. During the next twenty-six years, John held increasingly responsible management positions with Moon Engineering, culminating in his position as the company’s Procurement Manager responsible for planning, estimating and proposal preparation. When Moon Engineering was acquired by Earl Industries in January 2004, John assumed the position of Director of Procurement for the firm’s Ship Repair Division, responsible for estimating, purchasing, subcontracting, and material control.

Fred Pasquine

Director of Planning

Mr. Fred Pasquine is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in Virginia and Ohio and a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) by the American Society of Quality. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) degree from Geneva College and an MBA from Miami University. He was a certified vibration specialist in the steel industry and was later employed by a large electrical distribution company as an application engineer, design engineer, prototype lab supervisor, engineering supervisor and process improvement manager. Fred joined Earl Industries in 2007 to manage the company’s new aerospace machining operation. After further expanding his project management and process improvement skills, he was promoted to the Director of Process Improvement in 2009, responsible for all continuous process improvements within the company. In 2011, Fred became the Director of Planning where he is now responsible for all aspects of planning and scheduling for Earl’s Virginia Ship Repair Operations.

Warren Kennedy

Director of Engineering

Mr. Warren Kennedy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University. His managing and leadership skills are supported with a strong engineering and maintenance background with more than 40 years managing ship maintenance, modernization and repair. Prior to joining Earl Industries in 2005 his career with the U.S. Government included his serving as a warranted Chief Engineer and Engineering Department Head at SUPSHIP Portsmouth. Since being with Earl he has been instrumental in developing the engineering division and establishing company wide processes and procedures. He is delegated the total responsibility for all engineering matters with accountability, and authority for engineering and technical decisions.

Jeff Hanson

Director of Quality Assurance

Mr. Jeff Hanson has over 25 years experience working for the U.S. Navy which included extensive ship operational, maintenance and repair experience in Quality Assurance. In addition, he supervised the pipe shop, weld shop, nuclear repair, and served as Planning and Estimating Officer, Assistant Repair Officer, Chief Engineer and Assistant Force Engineer. Mr. Hanson has also held senior leadership positions as Assistant Director of Operations, Director of Engineering Training and Enterprise Integration Department Head in the private sector. Jeff joined Team Earl in September of 2011 as the Director of Quality Assurance, and oversees the company’s Quality Management System.

Luther W. Willey

Contracts Manager

Mr. Wayne Willey holds a Bachelor of Arts (History) degree from the University of Central Florida.  He is also a graduate of the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School with a concentration in Pipefitting. After serving as a Pipefitter, Inspector, and Ship Superintendent at Norfolk Naval Shipyard over an eight year period, Wayne joined the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, Portsmouth, VA.  There he served ten years as a Ship Surveyor, Quality Assurance Representative, and Contract Specialist. He joined Earl Industries in 1995 as a Contract Negotiator.  In 2001, he assumed the added responsibilities of Contracts Manager. In 2008, Wayne received a Master’s Certificate in Government Contracting from Old Dominion University.

Melissa J. Thomas

Director of Human Resources

Ms. Missy Thomas holds an Associate in Science Degree in Business Administration and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Society for Human Resource Management. As one of the original employees of Earl Industries, Missy has contributed instrumentally to the growth and success of the company. She started with Earl Industries as a receptionist/secretary in 1986 and has risen through hard work and dedication to a senior corporate position. Missy leads a headquarters staff of other Human Resources professionals and provides leadership and guidance to her subordinates strategically located in the company’s other offices around the country.

Ed Goodin

Business Development Manager

Mr. Ed Goodin has 23 years executive management, strategic planning, and business development experience. A Navy veteran, Ed has delivered shipboard training, integrated logistics support (ILS), information technology and engineering solutions to the Navy and other government agencies since 1980. A former executive with CACI International, Ed founded and operated Appropriate Technologies, Inc. from 1989 to 2005. In March 2010, he joined Earl Industries, where he is responsible for the strategic assessment of company capabilities and the development of relationships, proposals and programs that will significantly grow the business. Ed holds Associate Degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science from Tidewater Community College.

Stephen Hill

Director of Information Technology

Mr. Steve Hill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech and Microsoft certifications in database and application development.  He has held a variety of jobs in engineering.  He has been a small business owner and a computer consultant for a wide range of businesses, specializing in database design and systems integration.  After joining Earl Industries in 2005, he implemented the electronic timekeeping system, a company-wide reporting system and several other web-based applications before becoming the Director of IT.
